China children's smart watch industry standard launched

Since there was no product standard for children's smart watches in China in the early stage, the children's smart watches on the market were mixed. The frequent occurrence of various problems has hindered the development of children's smart watch market. Until December, 2018, Shenzhen Consumer Commission and Shenzhen Institute of quality consumption took the lead in formulating the first group standard of "technical requirements for children's smart watches" in China.

The children's smart watch industry chain mainly includes the upstream material and spare parts industry and the downstream sales end consumption field. The integration of functions such as positioning, communication and video call of children's smart watches cannot be separated from the supply of electronic components such as chips and sensors. With the development of communication technology and function integration, the development of chips and sensors in the field of children's smart watches has played an extremely important role in the competitiveness of children's smart watches.

Compared with the weakness of the overall smart watch market, the smart watch for children, as a market segment, shows a momentum of rapid growth, especially in China. Children's smart watches have been highly concerned by consumers since their inception, and many manufacturers have focused on children.

In 2018, the market size of China's smart watch industry was 25.053 billion yuan, up 28.87% from 19.441 billion yuan in 2017.

In 2019, the overall scale of the smart watch industry was about 31.3 billion yuan, of which the scale of children's smart watches was 21.128 billion yuan, accounting for 67.5% of the overall proportion of smart watches.

From the perspective of major downstream consumer groups, China's population aged 0-15 is on a growing trend. By 2019, China's total population aged 0-15 was 249.77 million, an increase of 1.17 million compared with 2018.

The growth in the number of children has created a good market environment for the domestic children's smart watch industry. On the other hand, the age of children's parents at this stage is mainly concentrated in the post-80s and post-90s. The willingness of parents in this age group to spend for their children is higher than that of parents of the previous generation. At the same time, the continuous improvement of income level further stimulates the demand scale of children's smart watches.

The huge market potential of children's smart watch market has attracted many manufacturers to set foot in the children's smart watch industry, including traditional audio-visual education enterprises such as Bubugao, Xiaomi, Huawei, Tencent and Internet information technology enterprises have successively entered the children's smart watch market. Compared with other consumer electronics fields, children's smart watches are still in the stage of chaotic competition, and the industry concentration is low, which provides development space for many new enterprises.

With the implementation of domestic children's smart watch industry standards, it is expected that in the near future, the children's smart watch market will eliminate a number of backward enterprises through product quality checkpoints, laying the foundation for the market pattern of children's smart watch industry.
